Metsä Fibre, part of Metsä Group, is initiating a production shutdown at its Joutseno pulp mill on 31 March 2026. The production shutdown is used to adjust pulp production to match the current uncertain demand situation in the Asian markets.
”We are monitoring the market situation, and the decision to restart production will be made based on it”, Metsä says in a press statement.
The Joutseno pulp mill has the capacity to produce 690,000 tonnes per year of high-quality softwood pulp, used as raw material for paperboard, tissue and printing papers, as well as specialty products.
This is the second market-related shutdown of the Joutseno pulp mill in the past nine months.
Metsä Fibre, a member of the Metsä Group, is a leading producer of wood-based bioproducts, such as pulp, sawn timber, biochemicals and bioenergy. The company produces pulp and bioproducts at four mills and sawn timber products at four sawmills in Finland.
