Sirpur Paper Mills, one of the oldest paper mills in India, has suspended production at its Sirpur-Kaghaznagar facility in the south eastern state of Andhra Pradesh. According to the company, the production has been suspended due to shortage of raw materials.
Sirpur Paper Mills, incorporated in 1938, started production in 1942 with a capacity of 5,000 tonnes per annum. The company started focusing on capacity expansion and modernisation since 1994 under the management of Ranjan Kumar Poddar and Devashish Poddar.
At present, the Kaghaznagar facility houses eight paper machines and has total production capacity of more than 370 tonnes per day.
According to The Hindu news report, Sirpur Paper Mills has been witnessing losses since past few years and may face closure.
