Indian flexible packaging company, Uflex, is planning to build a new plant in the state of Gujarat, Plastic News reported on 30 September 2014. The new plant is expected to start production in early 2016.

In an interview with Plastic News, Ashok Chaturvedi, Chairman and Managing Director, Uflex, said, “Initially, the plant capacity would be pegged at 80,000 [metric] tonnes, and we would double the capacity in the second phase to 160,000 tonnes yearly to make it the largest flexible packaging plant in India at one location under one roof.”

Chaturvedi added, “We are planning to invest around USD 325 million in the Ahmadabad plant alone. We have no presence in the western part of the country, and the Ahmadabad plant would cater to the western and southern Indian market.”

In addition, Uflex is also planning to set up a facility abroad with a view to expand globally. “We are working on three or four locations, but the decision will depend on market size and proximity to the customer,” Chaturvedi said.
