Google launches global deforestation website

Google has designed a new website that will keep track deforestation across the world. Google’s Global Forest Watch features maps along with in-depth coverage of the current deforestation scenario in any given region.

According to Google, the problem with current deforestation data is the lack of timely information, which is needed to be reliable about why forests are disappearing and when this will happen if current scenarios continues.

World Resources Institute partnered with Google to create the website. The website will make use of the technology that includes Google’s own Earth Engine and the Maps Engine.

According to Los Angeles Times, Global Forest Watch's most valuable feature is that it can be updated with new information every month, detecting changes in near-real-time.
