Voith has been awarded the contract by Kraftwerke Oberhasli AG (KWO) to equip the new Grimsel 4 pumped storage power plant in Switzerland. The scope includes the supply and installation of two variable-speed pump turbines, each with a capacity of 70 MW, including associated motor generators. The units will increase pumping and generation capacity at the Grimsel site and support the integration of renewable energy by providing flexible storage and grid-stabilization services.

The project marks the first major new-build contract awarded to Voith by KWO and represents an important milestone in the collabo-ration between the two companies. A key factor in securing the order was Voith’s competitive offer, as well as a technical concept based on a tested and qualified hydraulic design, which reduces technical risks and supports reliable project execution.

“Grimsel 4 is an important step in further developing our storage ca-pacity and strengthening system flexibility. Voith’s technically con-vincing solution and the constructive collaboration throughout the tender phase were key factors in our decision. We look forward to continuing the partnership during project execution,” says Ueli Gas-ser, Project Manager for Electromechanical Installations at Grimsel 4 at Kraftwerke Oberhasli AG.

“We are proud to support Kraftwerke Oberhasli AG with the Grimsel 4 project and further expand our footprint in Switzerland. The close collaboration throughout the tender phase laid a strong foundation, and we look forward to continuing this partnership during project execution,” says Aleksandar Glamoclija, Key Account Manager Ger-many at Voith Hydro.

With Grimsel 4, Voith further strengthens its footprint in the Swiss hydropower market and contributes to the expansion of flexible en-ergy storage capacity in the region.
