Smurfit Westrock will idle its corrugated packaging plant in Lebanon, Tennessee, resulting in 52 job losses. The company group notified the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development recently, with the shutdown set for August 14, 2026.
The Lebanon closure is seen in the light of Smurfit Westrock continuing to integrate and optimizing operations, following the 2024 merger between Smurfit Kappa and WestRock. The merger has created one of the world’s largest paper-based packaging companies, and the group has since then committed to a range of rationalization measures.
The company still holds a significant presence in Tennessee, including facilities in Nashville, Gallatin, Lewisburg and Murfreesboro.
Smurfit Westrock operates more than 560 packaging facilities and 57 mills in 40 countries, with a paper and board production capacity of approximately 23 million tonnes per year.
Smurfit Westrock is a global paper-based packaging company headquartered in Dublin, Ireland.
