New project The U.S. Department of Energy has decided to pick Vicksburg Containerboard Mill, a plant owned by International Paper, to take part in a feasibility study that could generate a grant worth up to $88 million for a carbon capture pilot.

The paper mill is located in the U.S. state of Missisipi.

Oren Ruth, the mill manager at Vicksburg Mill, told local daily The Vicksburg Post that the business is looking forward to the possibilities the initiative could bring to the region.

“We are excited to explore a first-of-its-kind carbon capture system at our mill,” the manager said. “We believe this project has the potential to deliver significant benefits to the local community, our employees and the environment.”
