Russia’s largest pulp and cardboard plant will be officially commissioned in the city of Ust-Ilimsk by 2023, according to recent statements, made by an official spokesman of the Irkutsk regional authorities and some local media reports.
The design capacity of the plant is 600,000 tonnes of cardboard per year, with a total investment of more than US$1 billion. The project will be implemented by Ilim Group, one of Russia’s largest pulp and paper producers.
Implementation of the project is controlled by the Irkustk authorities and the governor Igor Kobzev.
According to him, the launch of the plant will provide an impetus for the development of the entire Northern Russia.
The new plant will create more than 850 new jobs.
According to Zakhar Smushkin, chairman of Ilim Group, implementation of the project will allow the company to increase production to 4.5 million tons per year and make Ilim one of the largest producers of unbleached packaging materials in the world with a total output of 1.5 million tons per year.
Zakhar Smushkin also said that in addition to the use of some modern technologies, the new production will be carried out taking into account world environmental standards.
