Holmen workers strike in Madrid

Holmen Paper said that workers at its paper mill in Madrid, Spain went on strike recently in protest of the company's February announcement to close one of the mill's paper machines.

According to the company, the strike has forced the mill to shut down production and stop deliveries to customers.

In early-February, Holmen announced that it would permanently close PM 61 — a170,000 tones per year machine that produces coated magazine paper (LWC), and to a lesser extent, improved newsprint.

Production on the machine stopped in late March, affecting the jobs of 170 workers.

Holmen said the strike is set to continue on Thursday 28th and Saturday 30th of April.
