NPTA alliance presents award

NPTA Alliance announced recently that James W. Barrett, executive vice president of Central National-Gottesman Inc., is the recipient of its 2011 Stanley O. Styles (SOS) Industry excellence award.

The SOS Industry Excellence Award is NPTA’s highest honor, named after Stanley O. Styles, who worked more than 35 years with the Martin Cantine Co. and was an active volunteer of NPTA Alliance. The award is annually presented to an individual who has had a distinguished career in the paper, packaging and/or supplies industries and has made a positive impact through innovation and dedication. Barrett, who became executive vice president of Central National-Gottesman Inc. in 1998, was chosen for his contributions during his 45 plus years within the paper industry.

"Jim’s long and successful career in the paper distribution industry was built upon a set of business philosophies and skills developed through being open-minded, always willing to learn and a commitment to honesty, hard work and fair play," said nominator Kenneth L. Wallach, president and CEO, Central National-Gottesman Inc.

Barrett’s track record as a leader was also a factor in choosing him for the award. "Jim has been an exemplary leader of Lindenmeyr Munroe since assuming overall responsibility for the division," Wallach said. "His broad experience in all facets of the paper distribution business, combined with a wide-ranging curiosity, has allowed him to anticipate industry changes and guide Lindenmeyr Munroe to increased sales and profits during his 12 years as head of the division — a period of considerable challenge for most paper merchants and other industry participants."

Barrett will receive the SOS Industry Excellence Award during Paper2011, March 27-29 in Chicago, Ill. Individuals looking to honor Barrett can make a donation in his name to

the Paper and Plastics Education Research (PAPER) Foundation Scholarship Program in 2011.

"I was very pleased and proud when I heard that I had been named this year's winner of the Stanley O. Styles Award," said Barrett. "In reflecting on past winners, this award becomes that much more meaningful. I have had the good fortune to work with many talented colleagues over the years and to them I say thank you for helping to make this recognition possible."
