Safety on high-speed cutters

In most countries, certain safety standards for machine operators are prescribed by law. Consequently, the operating company has to ensure that the required inspections are performed throughout the machine’s entire service life. They must be carried out in an expert and competent manner by qualified inspectors. According to the individual machine, certain inspection intervals have to be met and a test certificate must be issued. Already in the early 1970s, Polar developed a special technical safety concept in close cooperation with the German employers' liability insurance association. It specifies the systematic inspection of the safety-relevant facilities on Polar high-speed cutters, and is regularly adapted to the latest European Directives. This concept has already been presented to the responsible technical safety authorities in three European countries and also implemented together with the respective Polar agencies. The next country to perform the inspections will be Switzerland. The names of the qualified inspectors are listed on our Polar website under Services/ Customer Services/ Safety Checks. Some of the test items are checked with testing equipment developed by Polar. After the machine has passed the safety check, it is given a sticker so that the supervising authority can easily see that the Polar product is in perfect technical condition. Such technical safety inspections should also be carried out after any modifications, long downtimes, moves or other occurrences. Regular inspections help to prevent defects from causing dangerous situations and enable the employer to meet his legal obligations.
