Reflex announced that it has restarted paper machine 4 at its paper mill in Duren, Germany. The machine underwent an upgrade process over the past four months.

PM4 produces high quality translucent paper from 50 gsm to 220 gsm, in various qualities. The translucent paper is primarily produced with white, but customers can also choose from a variety of colors, the company said.

Translucent paper was primarily required in the drawing sector, but is now used for several applications in the graphic design sector. Examples include brochures, mailings, calendars, printed matter, envelopes, and above all an increasing amount in innovative packaging.

Reflex's CEO, Hariolf Koeder, said, “In light of the current developments in the paper industry, a restart of a paper machine seems unusual. The owners of Reflex have nevertheless provided a seven-figure sum for necessary investments until 2017. We are therefore in the position to not only strengthen our return to the translucent paper market, but at the same time increase our capacity.” With a large investment in its infrastructure, Reflex signaled the start of an economically stable future for the company.
