Prices for newsprint in Russia increased by 5%-7% in April of the current year, according to Russia’s leading printing companies. Overal, since the beginning of the current year newsprint prices in Russia have risen by an average of 10-15%.

At present newsprint prices in Russia are varied in the range of RUB 22 500-24 000  (US$500) per tonne without VAT.

According to analysts of the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade, the increase became mainly due to the shortage of paper in the Russian market, which resulted after the suspension of production of three of the four paper machines at the Volga mill, one of Russia’s largest pulp and paper producers.
