In December 2013, VA-Ingenjörerna signed a contract with the pulp and paper mill Södra Cell in Värö involving the installation of Hydrotech filters.
The project is a result of the successful cooperation between the Swedish Veolia companies, VA-Ingenjörerna and Hydrotech, and will be the first major disc filter installation in Sweden to replace Passavant equipment for raw water filtration.
The installation is planned to begin in March and end in the summer of 2014.
The main installation consists of three Hydrotech filters of type HSF with an individual capacity of 3600 m3/h.
The filters are carefully designed to achieve the smallest possible footprint and lowest head loss in order to fit into the current filtration basins.
The Swedish Veolia companies VA-Ingenjörerna and Hydrotech are involved in design, project management, dismantling existing Passavant filters and installation of the new filters.
The delivery also includes functional and performance guarantees such as a plant availability rate of 99.8%, requiring equipment of superior quality.
As these filters supply process water to the entire plant, the installation has to be done during full operation, which puts great demands of water delivery during the installation. Therefore the filters are going to be replaced one by one in order to guarantee the production level.
The Södra Cell Värö mill is located in Väröbacka, 60 km south of Gothenburg. Södra Cell is the world's third largest manufacturer of market pulp, with combined annual production of just over two million tonnes.
