The American Forest & Paper Association has released its January 2014 Printing-Writing Paper Report. According to this, total printing-writing paper shipments decreased 8 percent in January compared to January 2013, with decreases in all four printing-writing grades.
Other key findings in the report include:
•Uncoated free sheet (UFS) paper shipments in January decreased 11 percent compared to January 2013, with inventories increasing 5 percent over December levels.
•January coated free sheet (CFS) papers shipments decreased 4 percent compared to the same period in 2013 to 323,000 tons.
•Uncoated mechanical (UM) paper shipments decreased 2 percent in January, the first year-over-year decline in the past seven months.
•Coated mechanical (CM) shipments of 231,400 tons in January decreased 10 percent compared to January 2013.
