SP Fiber Technologies to convert PM to packaging products

SP Fiber Technologies will convert PM5 at its Newberg, Oregon paper mill for the production of lightweight packaging grades.

PM5 will cease production of newsprint on January 15th to allow for necessary process modifications, the company said. The conversion is expected to be completed in the second quarter of this year.

SPFT said that it will continue providing high quality, recycled content newsprint for the west coast market from PM6.

"This project reflects the strategy to grow our packaging business while remaining a preferred newsprint supplier in the West. Newberg is a solid asset with great people. We are very excited about this expansion of our packaging business in the West," said Allen Byrd, CEO.
