The Brazilian Pulp and Paper Association (Bracelpa) reported that Brazil's pulp and paper export revenues totaled US$6.50 billion by November 2013, an 8.2% increase over the accumulated result in the same period in 2012. As product imports registered a drop of 5%, the sector's trade balance was US$ 4.78 billion — 13.9% higher than in the same months last year.
Pulp production from January to November grew by 7.5% in comparison with the same period in 2012, totaling a production of 13.72 million tons. Last year, the volume in the period was 12.77 million tons.
With respect to paper, domestic production amounted to 9.55 million tons what represents a growth of 1.7% from January to November this year in comparison with the same period in 2012, when 9.39 million tons were produced. In the accumulated result, domestic paper sales also registered an increase of 2.6%, adding up to 5.20 million tons.
Total pulp exports also increased and reached 8.53 million tons, 11.5% higher than the 7.65 million tons exported in the same months in 2012.
Pulp sales to China, which remains the second largest market for the Brazilian product, continue to grow. Sales already total US$1.39 billion, with an increase of 23.7% in the year's accumulated result
Pulp sales to Europe however, Brazil's major market, were down slightly 0.7% in the period with a total of US$1.91billion.
