Grupo Orsa halts production at pulp mill in the Amazon region

The Brazilian company Grupo Orsa has suspended pulp production at its pulp plant in Monte Dourado, EUWID reports. The production was suspended earlier than previously planned, January 15. Previously, the company had planned to idle it at the end of January.

The pulp line with a capacity of 410,000 tpy of bleached eucalyptus kraft pulp.

Grupo Orsa is considering two options for the future for the mill; either it will resume production of paper pulp production, or it will switch to dissolving pulp. Many doubt that the mill will resume production, no matter what product it opts for. The remote geographic location of the mill in the middle of the Amazonas would make it difficult to continue operation.
