Polar wins award

At the drupa 2012 Polar’s new product WiMotion, which currently has a patent pending, was awarded third prize at the International Technology Award of Deutscher Drucker.

WiMotion makes work at the Polar high-speed cutter much easier, primarily with regard to operation and ergonomics. This is achieved by integrating the high-speed cutting machine system control components directly into the knocking block itself. The operator can activate certain functions directly from the WiMotion, eliminating the need to do it from the high-speed cutter itself. The major advantage of WiMotion is that certain controls can be moved to a place where they are really needed, and the connection requires no cable at all. The name WiMotion is a blend of the two terms "wireless“ and "motion“.

An operator working at the guillotine-type cutter will use a knocking block to perform various functions:

-Pushing the material to be cut. When the operator moves the material to be cut, it can easily slide out of place. Material being moved with a knocking block will remain in contact with it and thus will no longer be able to slip away.

-Aligning the material to be cut: The operator can use the knocking block to align the cutting material against the backgauge from the front side. Additionally, he/she can easily straighten any cutting material that may have sloped forward after cutting.
