Peikko has received significant orders to a pulp mill project in Punta Pereira, Uruguay, South America. Montes del Plata, a joint venture of Arauco of Chile and Stora Enso of Finland, is intending to produce 1.3 million tons of pulp per year starting in early 2013. The project comprises a pulp mill, a deepwater port and power generating unit based on renewable resources.

Peikko has delivered to the site various types of precast connections, such as column shoes, anchor bolts, fastening plates and rebar coupling systems. The total of the deliveries are expected to exceed 300 tons. Peikko co-operates with multiple European machinery and engineering companies (e.g. Andritz and Pöyry), local engineering company CSI, construction companies such as Teyma, Saceem and Salfa as well as precast companies Schmidt (Uruguay) and Astori (Argentina). The project is handled and has been developed by a team from Peikko Spain SL.

“We are proud to be part of such a large and demanding project. Peikko is not yet present with own operations in South America. The market is currently developed by Peikko’s Spanish organization and the following years will show when and where we will start our own operations.” comments Topi Paananen, CEO of Peikko Group Corporation.
