UPM builds a new head office to Töölönlahti area, Helsinki city centre. The company has applied for building permit to the city of Helsinki. The building will be owned by a real estate company while UPM will be a long-term tenant.

“The business cycle is now favorable to us. We have agreed with the constructor, YIT Corporation, that we start the construction work in the beginning of the year 2012,” says Kaj-Erik Lindberg, Vice President, Real Estate, UPM.

Helin & Co Architects won the design competition arranged for invited participants with their work "Dryad and Griffin".  The new building represents Finnish design and its space and greatly demonstrates the use of UPM products and wood as construction material.

The new five-storey building will be nearly one third smaller than the current head office and enables increased interactivity and creativity.

The operating costs of the new office are annually nearly two million euros lower than those of the current head office. The office provides premises for around 400 people.

Currently UPM is located in a building owned by the German insurance group Allianz in Eteläesplanadi 2 and in Ruoholahti in Helsinki. UPM's lease for the Eteläesplanadi building will end in 2013.
