China's Ministry for Environmental Protection reduced the threshold for companies to apply for recovered paper import licences and issued the first batch of licences in December, Euwid reports.

According to the new threshould, companies with a minimum paper manufacturing capacity of 50,000 tpy are allowed to apply for licences. Previously, this threshold was 300,000 tpy. As a consequence, recovered paper imports into China could reach up to 22 million tons in 2018. Earlier estimates amounted to 18 millions tons.

The total batch of licences has a volume of 2.27 million tonnes.
