Global sustainability competition winner is decided on 24 September

Six teams with climate-smart innovations from the forest compete for the first prize of EUR 25,000.


There are only two days left until the final of the innovation competition “What wood you do”. Compete for the chance of winning EUR 25,000 for the best climate-smart business idea within forestry and the forest bioeconomy.


On September 24, it's time for the final of the competition, which was announced in March with the goal of finding the next big idea to accelerate the transition to a fossil-free society with the help of the forest. Watch online as the finalists present their solutions to the jury, vote, and ask questions.


Six promising ideas have been selected from 50 contributions from 10 countries and range from new uses for forest raw materials, to high-tech solutions with drones and artificial intelligence. Read more about each finalist below.


The competition is organized by the world leading business cluster Paper Province, which works to promote forest bioeconomy. The jury consists of industry experts from, among others, Gunnar Sundblad’s Foundation, Sveaskog and Stora Enso.


The final is livestreamed on starting at 1 PM (CET). You can also register for individual interviews with the finalists and the jury after the event, online via Zoom.


The final is held in English.

The entries that compete in the final are:


Biosorbe: A unique material and method that filters out hydrocarbons from water and air using processed pulp. The next step is to also be able to filter out bacteria. A revolutionary innovation that has the potential to create a new market for water and air purification.


Arboair: A forest scanning technology with 4K cameras, artificial intelligence, and colour shift analysis to detect infected or stressed trees. A ground-breaking technology to scan the forest that makes the industry significantly more efficient by replacing traditional methods on foot.


Wood Tube: A strong but light construction stud made of pulp that has 14 times less carbon dioxide emissions than the metal studs that are often used in the construction of interior walls. The product also improves the carpenters' working environment and minimizes construction costs.


Nordluft: Super drones that can carry 30 kilos of cargo and fertilizes forests with high precision in a cheap and environmentally friendly way. The drone system solves the need for increased raw material production in forestry and agriculture without a negative impact on the environment.


FineCell: A technology that makes it easier to add nanocellulose to a product by making a dry cellulose powder. The material has great potential to replace fossil materials and improve the properties of products in areas such as cosmetics, plastics, building materials and paints.


SilviBio: Innovative moisture-retaining materials for seed coatings and soil conditioners to help farmers and foresters avoid losses due to drought and reduce irrigation needs.
