Smurfit Westrock to invest approximately €600 million in France

Smurfit Westrock announced plans to invest approximately €600 million across at its plants in France, reinforcing its long-term commitment to French industry ahead of the Choose France initiative, according to Inkworld Magazine. 

Smurfit Westrock employs approximately 6,000 people at 50 sites across France.

Saverio Mayer, CEO Europe, MEA and APAC at Smurfit Westrock, said, as quoted by Ink World Magazine:  “With this continuous program of investment in France, our commitment to innovation, quality, and decarbonization efforts is clear. France continues to provide a strong environment for this to take place; through long-term industrial investment, supported by skilled talent, innovation, and a clear commitment to sustainability.”.

The investment will be implemented over the next three to five years and will focus on modernization and decarbonization of its operations, enhancing manufacturing efficiency, customer innovation, and sustainable packaging capabilities.

The plans include a €40 million expansion and modernization of the Épernay facility, €20 to the corrugated facility in Vernon, and over €100 million to support multiple projects at the Facture paper mill, including the installation of an evaporation plant, according to Andrew Coffey, CEO at Smurfit Westrock France, quoted by Ink World Magazine.
