Ecohelix, a pioneer in sustainable material innovation, is proud to announce it has won the Packaging Europe Sustainability Award 2025 in the Pre-Commercial category for Renewable Materials. This globally recognized award often referred to as the 'Nobel Prize' for packaging sustainability, validates the significant potential of Ecohelix’s cutting-edge material, WOODMER® Seal.
The Packaging Europe Sustainability Awards shine a spotlight on the ideas and developments that make a tangible difference in the industry. The competition is judged by an independent, international jury of 60 experts from brand owners, academia, and sustainability organizations, ensuring all winning solutions demonstrate a holistic and rigorous approach to environmental impact.
The Ecohelix WOODMER® Seal is a revolutionary, wood-based heat seal coating designed to replace fossil-based plastics and other non-renewable materials in flexible packaging coatings. WOODMER® Seal offers customers a viable, high-performance, and sustainable solution manufactured from residual wood streams, providing a fully renewable material source. It delivers the necessary sealing strength and barrier properties required for modern packaging while enabling decarbonization by replacing fossil-based plastic coatings. By adopting this material, customers make progress towards their sustainability targets.
Petri Oinonen, CEO and Founder of Ecohelix, expressed his gratitude and conviction regarding the win:
