Valmet has won a tender for the delivery oxygen-alkali delignification unit for the needs of Arkhangelsk PPM (APPM), one of Russia’s largest pulp and paper producers.

The value of the contract amounted to RUB 5.5 billion (US$75 million).

It is planned, the new technology will allow the company to more efficiently remove lignin from high-yield semi-finished products.

That will also contribute to the growth of productivity of the plant, maintaining the current level of water consumption and reduce the discharge of pollutants.

Implementation of the project became part of the efforts of APPM's for the transition of its pulp production to ECF technology and improvement of its eco-profile

The program for improving the environmental efficiency of APPM includes more than 20 environmental protection measures with the overall cost of 18.2 billion rubles.

By 2030, the plant plans to reduce the specific discharge of pollutants into the Northern Dvina River, measured in characteristic integral indicators, by 45% - 55%.
