Prices for paper in China will be growing this year due to high cost of raw materials and the ever tightening environmental legislation, which leads to additional cost of producers, according to recent statements, made by representatives of some leading Chinese paper producers and media reports.
So far, several of the country’s leading paper producers have already announced their plans to increase prices for their paper products this year in an attempt to compensate their losses, associated with the pandemic.
The main reason for this is the ever growing prices for pulp and chemicals – the main raw materials, which are used in papermaking.
Currently most of raw materials, which are used in the Chinese papermaking sector, are imported from abroad, while the pandemic and associated with it negative consequences, has led to a significant increase of prices for them.
The situation is also complicated by the ever growing prices for waste paper in China, which is mainly due to the recently introduced ban on the imports of solid waste to the country.
Analysts expect the supplies of waste paper to the Chinese market will further decline this year, as the local government has been limiting these supplies since 2017.
