The government of Latvia plans to take measures for the development of paper finishing and converting within the territory of the country during the next several years, according to recent reports, published by some Latvian media.

The main reason for this is the ever growing volumes of waste paper in the country, the majority of which, so far, has been sent to neighboring states, due to the lack of processing capacities in Latvia. That was also due to the closure of the Ligatne paper factory, one of Latvia’s flagship paper factories, several years ago.

Finally, low purchasing prices for waste paper has been another reason for its exports to abroad.

According to data of the Latvian government, the annual volume of waste paper accumulated in the country exceeds 60 million tonnes.
