Russian company to use straw for papermaking

The first enterprise for the production of paper from straw will soon be built in Russia, according to recent statements, made by some local analysts in the field of paper business and Russian media reports.

The project will be implemented by the local Saratov Poultry Plant Kurnikov Ltd., while the volume of investments in the building of the new factory will reach RUB 1.8 billion (US$30 million).

It is planned, the construction of the plant, that will use rye and wheat straw in its manufacturing processes will begin already shortly.

The new production facility will be located in the Saratov region and will be the first facility of such kind in Russia.

According to an official spokesman of the Saratov government, straw can be used to make paper and could be considered as a substitute for hardwood sulphate pulp. That means the new production will be 100% eco-friendly.

The range of the new enterprise will be wide and include napkins, toilet paper and paper towels. The new project will create more than 60 new jobs.
