Despite the pandemic, Belarus has no plans to revise its earlier announced plans for a significant increase of domestic pulp and paper production within the next several years, according to recent statements, made by an official spokesman of the Belarus presidential Administration.
In recent years, the dynamics of the industry has been volatile. This is reflected by statistics, according to which from 2012 to 2016, the volume of paper and cardboard production in the country fell by 30.7%, to 264.00 tonnes. While since that time the output has increased, the current situation in the Belarus paper sector remains generally complex.
Still, there is a possibility such a situation may change already in the coming years, that will be also due to recently announced plans of some leading local producers to significantly expand their production capacities already in the middle term.
For example, a couple of weeks ago the Svetlogorsk Pulp and Paper announced its plans to establish production of packaging paper, while earlier this year the plans for the expansion of its capacities of coated and uncoated cardboard were announced by another leading local player the Dobrush Paper Mill Hero of Labor.
