A new Uzbek plant for the production of cotton cellulose for banknote paper may reach its design capacity already in the first half of 2021 and is expected to become one of the largest facilities of such kind in the entire Asian region, according to recent statements, made by an official spokesman of the Uzbek government and some local media reports.
The plant, which was officially commissioned in the Uzbek city of Yangiyul at the end of August became the only facility in Central Asia specializing in the production of cotton pulp for banknote paper.
The enterprise was established on the basis of the Yangiyul pulp and paper mill by a consortium of Korean companies Komsco (65%) (Fig,2) and Daewoo International (35%).
As part of the project, Komsco is responsible for technologies for the production of cotton pulp, while Daewoo International for the experience of doing business in Uzbekistan. By the end of the current year up to 6 tonnes of cotton cellulose will be produced at the capacities of the newly established plant. This is just the beginning, as its capacities will be significantly expanded next year.
