SCA Packaging wins at Starpack Awards

The Starpack Packaging and Design Awards presented in London last Thursday saw the SCA Packaging Industrial Division in the UK win the Champion and Gold Awards for an innovative packaging solution engineered from sustainable materials as an environmental alternative to drums and bottle-in-cages style intermediate bulk container for liquids and semi-liquids.

Competing within the Transit category, SCA beat fierce competition to take home the Gold and Champion award for Best in Show. The winning packaging solution, the ‘bulk olive shipper’, is a high integrity transit unit constructed from standard packaging materials which, through the application of scientific analysis and calculation delivers an excellent solution for transportation of semi-bulk cargoes of 1000litres of liquid product.

"Constructed from sustainable materials and completely recyclable, this one-way container uses no fossil fuels for return journeys, landfill disposal is avoided and no cleaning is required. In addition, it can offer savings of up to 20% on handling and storage costs over traditional non-recyclable packaging methods," commented Chay Ankers, Liquid Packaging Sales Manager at SCA Packaging Industrial Division.

Developed in partnership with the A2B logistics division of global flexible packaging leader Scholle Packaging, the ‘bulk olive shipper’ highlights the unique benefits of the innovative packaging solution. "Working with SCA Packaging Industrial Division on this project has been a great opportunity to leverage our flexible and logistics expertise to develop a value added solution that can make a real difference to our customers," says Scholle’s Commercial Director Simon Waller. "The teams at Scholle and SCA are very excited about bringing these benefits to markets worldwide."

SCA Cool Logistics got a Gold Award for ZeoCool, an innovative transit packaging solution which controls the internal payload space by reacting to the external ambient temperature, maintaining complete product integrity of +2ºC to +8ºC.

As winners of Starpack Awards, both the ‘Bulk Olive Shipper’ and ZeoCool are now in the running for the WorldStar Awards, which will be announced in December
