The requirements for packaging to carry take-out food continue to increase. For consumers, and so for suppliers, it is important that the packaging doesn’t leak and that it helps keep food warm or cold.
SCA has had a presence in the take-out market for many years with its extensive production of packaging for take-out pizza. The quality has progressed from fairly flimsy boxes of relatively thin material to packaging in corrugated board that meets health and safety regulations and that does not leak tomato sauce or grease and that is stackable.
With more and more suppliers and products turning up in the take-out food market, demand for SCA’s products and services is also on the rise.
"We can custom-produce packaging for transporting pre-packed food portions as well as help with the actual transportation," says Magnus Renman, R&D and Innovation Director at SCA Packaging.
Three out of four Brits take their hamburger or bag of fish ’n’ chips to go.
Almost as many French people and Germans choose not to sit down.
In Italy and Spain, one out of four take their food to be consumed elsewhere.
For food eaten outside the home, the US tops the list. Households there on average spend half their entire food budget on take-out food and restaurant visits. The corresponding figure for Germany is 35 percent, while the figure for Poland and the Czech Republic is 5 percent.
