Arauco participated in the third version of the Sur Mujer Fair. The fair was held during July 1 – 3 and has gained a reputation as a meeting place to discuss issues regarding the identity of women in southern Chile and as an important exhibition platform for their creative fine craftwork.
In addition to sponsoring this initiative, the company was able to share the work done by Arauco Educational Foundation in this area. Neva Milicic, a renowned psychologist, master of education and teacher at the Foundation, spoke to over 200 people about "Feminine Self esteem, a contribution to Personal Balance", sharing interesting thoughts with the audience.
Before the presentation, the Foundation’s Technical Manager for the Los Ríos Region, Alejandra Torretti, presented a corporate video showing the work developed with municipal schools in socially vulnerable areas in which Arauco maintains industrial and forestry operations.
Sur Mujer gathered more than a hundred entrepreneur and micro-business women in one big fair exhibiting the best and most representative crafts of southern Chile, including artisan crafts, jewelry, design, gourmet products, decorative products, textiles and children’s clothing, in addition to a number of beauty products and services.
The fair allowed production organizations of Mariquina commune to show the results of their entrepreneur work developed under Social Investment Programs for Mapuche Communities included in the Integrated Model for Sustainable Development (MIDES) program, launched by the company in this coastal commune.
Using the slogan "San José de la Mariquina: Crafts to be Enjoyed" and thanks to the collaborative work done by the Mariquina Municipality, ARAUCO and associations Lan Art, Domo Füwen Mapu, Chawaytu, Koyagtuwemapu and Tejedoras de Yeco; more than 6,000 people that visited Sur Mujer were able to enjoy the quality work in wool, silver and boqui (a plant used for basket weaving) made by the women and men artisan workers of this commune.
