Arauco receives social responsibility award

Headed by Arauco’s Chairman of the Board, José Tomás Guzmán; Vice chairman of the Board, Roberto Angelinin; Management and Development Director Cristián Infante; Corporate Affairs and Marketing Director Charles Kimber; Arauco Educational Foundation Manager Angélica Prats; and Public Affairs Manager Iván Chamorro, a group of about thirty people gathered at SOFOFA headquarters in Santiago, Chile, to receive the 2010 Social Responsibility Award.

The award ceremony was held on June 1 at the Chilean Industry Federation’s (SOFOFA) Council Hall and was headed by the Federation’s Chairman, Andrés Concha and "Capital" magazine director, Guillermo Turner.

Arauco and Clavos Kraown Ltda. received the 2010 SOFOFA-CAPITAL Social Responsibility Award in categories "Large Businesses" and "Small and Medium Businesses", respectively.

This award is annually given by the business sector and honors businesses that demonstrate a permanent and comprehensive commitment to social responsibility, a solid business career, compliance with their legal responsibilities and good labor relations.

Andrés Concha said that Social Responsibility has increased its significance within companies as the years go by, adding that today, it’s not just about having a successful business model, but about "ensuring that externalities that have an impact on society are branded as positive".

Guillermo Turner said that "Capital" magazine’s editorial line includes, "highlighting good practices in Social Responsibility", and coming editions of the magazine will include articles on both winning businesses.

Receiving the award on behalf of the company was José Tomás Guzmán, Chairman of the Board, and Cristián Infante, Management and Development Director; receiving the award on behalf of Clavos Kraown were its Sales Managing Director, Jacqueline Ibáñez, and Production Manager Jorge Sepúlveda.

The SOFOFA Social Responsibility Award was created in 1998, and is the country’s longest standing award for this issue. The finalists for the 2010 version in the Large Businesses category were Asociación Chilena de Seguridad and Essbio, both of whom have an outstanding commitment to Social Responsibility. The finalist in the Small and Medium Businesses category was Vigaflow, a water treatment business
