Cascades Fine Papers Group received a Novae Competition Eco-Design Award in the B2B medium/large enterprise category for the innovative and ecological design of its new paper, Rolland Enviro100 Satin. The awards were presented at the first Eco-Design ceremony held on May 31 in Montreal.
Rolland Enviro100 Satin impressed the judges not only due to its raw material, a 100% post-consumer chlorine free bleached pulp, but also for its manufacturing process that has a small ecological footprint in both water consumption and air emissions. In fact, this paper is FSC Recycled, EcoLogo and Processed Chlorine Free certified, in addition to being manufactured using local and renewable biogas energy. The jury was also attracted by the performance aspect of the product aimed at a new market where ecological alternatives are few.
Organized by Novae, in association with the Institute for Product Development, the competition is focused on rewarding the work of professionals and organizations that choose an environmentally responsible approach when designing new products. The award winners demonstrated integration of sustainable design principles during the development, manufacturing and distribution of a product. During the awards ceremony, Mickaël Carlier, Chairman of Novae, explained, "The businesses here awarded must be regarded as pioneers, true leaders of eco-innovation, the procession of which will soon be unavoidable."
Cascades also stood out for its Christmas tree made of recycled cardboard which was among the finalists in the B2C medium/large enterprise category. This new product offers an ecological alternative to the traditional trees demonstrating that anything can be reinvented.
