Huhtamaki supports UNICEF

In the spirit of the season, Huhtamäki Oyj makes a donation to UNICEF. The donation is targeted to support children suffering from the flood emergency in Pakistan.

At present, there are over 20 million people suffering from the floods in Pakistan, half of which are children. The number of people affected is triple the number of people affected by the 2004 Tsunami catastrophe. People in Pakistan have lost their homes, crops have been destroyed and children are threatened by diseases spreading though contaminated water.

At this stage of UNICEF's aid program, its operations focuse on efforts to stop epidemics and hunger as well as prepare for the approaching winter. With UNICEF's support over a million Pakistani children are able to receive fresh water each day. Children are being vaccinated, they are provided additional nutrition and temporary learning centers are established. Further, child protection measures strive for preventing child abuse and threat of human trafficking and violence.

Each year during this time of giving, Huhtamaki has donated money to various projects related to environmental protection and social well-being. Due to the massive amount of work yet to be done in the flood region, this year Huhtamaki has chosen to support the relief efforts in Pakistan.
