SCA transport wind turbines to Sweden

Since the summer, SCA Transforest has been transporting wind turbines to northern Sweden on its system ships. Because a number of large-scale wind farms will be built during the coming years, this is a business with great potential.

Using ro-ro (roll on, roll off) vessels, another common term for system ships, entire consignments of wind turbine parts can be loaded on board and then shipped to ports along the coast of northern Sweden.

Using SCA’s system ships for wind turbines entails many advantages. "It is a cost-effective and environmentally friendly way that benefits both us and the customer," says Nils-Johan Haraldsson, vice president for marketing at SCA Transforest.

"It reduces road transportation, and we can also fill our vessels. That means we use capacity better. Furthermore, our ships sail according to a fixed timetable, which means that wind turbine manufacturers can plan exactly when the turbines should be made and ready for delivery".

And there won’t be any damage to the turbines because we do not have to touch the cargo in loading and discharging.
