Demag Cranes has been awarded a contract to supply four fully automatic process cranes for a paper roll shipping store and a paper roll buffer store in China. Both stores are an integral part of a new production facility which is being built by the Chinese paper manufacturer Ji’An Paper Packet Co., Ltd. in the north of Zhejiang province. The cranes ensure that the planned annual production of approximately 610,000 tonnes of paper can be reliably stored and retrieved at high cycle rates. They are supported by new mechanical grabs, which have been recently developed by Demag Cranes specially for the paper industry.
For its end customers, Ji’An Paper Packet can pick up already packed rolls of paper and store them in space-saving stacks using the newly developed grabs. The use of the innovative mechanical grabs also results in a significant increase in handling speeds, since up to four rolls of paper can be picked simultaneously. Ji’An Paper Packet is the first customer in the Chinese paper industry to use the new mechanical grabs. They have already demonstrated the success of their design and operating principle in a British paper store. The cranes ensure that high production output can be quickly stored and reliably staged ready for shipping in specific order batches.
Zhan Zhenfeng, Vice General Manager of Zhejiang Ji`An Paper Packet, states, "For Ji’An Paper Packet, the new paper machine and the two automatic paper roll stores represent a further important milestone along the company’s path of expansion and technology leadership, which it has been pursuing for many years. This is also demonstrated by our investment in the fastest containerboard paper machine in the world". Thomas H. Hagen, member of the Management Board of Demag Cranes AG responsible for operations, emphasises the strategic importance of this business relationship, "The contract awarded by Ji’An Paper Packet underlines Demag Cranes’ leading position as a manufacturer of demanding technological crane solutions for automatic paper roll stores. We have taken a further step in a growth market which is important to us with the delivery of process cranes including software for Ji’An Paper Packet."
