Eka awarded for cargo handling

Eka Chemicals has recently been awarded by one of their service providers, the American railroad company CSX, for having 'demonstrated outstanding commitment to chemical safety' in cargo handling.

Each year, CSX Transportation Inc. issues Chemical Safety Excellence Awards (CSEA) to their customers who have demonstrated outstanding commitment to chemical safety and responsibility. To be eligible for the award, each company must ship 600 or more railcars per year on CSXT and have no non-accidental releases during the entire year. Shippers include companies from the Chemicals, Fertilizer, Emerging Markets, Agriculture and Metals Merchandise commodity markets. One hundred CSX shippers are eligible to receive the award.

This year, CSXT specially recognized a few companies who have displayed a five year long commitment to chemical safety. Eka Chemicals' Curt Warfel and Janet Breese accepted the award attributing this accomplishment to the "tremendous awareness of the shipping personnel at the Eka plants. "Due to optimal communication of proper procedures amongst the staff, as well as involvement in the Responsible Care® program", Curt comments and emphasizes Eka Chemicals' plant managers' "need to do it right."

Curt describes the safety goals for the future in baseball terms: "We’ve already got a double, now we’re going for a home run." The "double" Curt refers to represents the acknowledgement Eka Chemicals has received from not only CSXT, but also from Canadian National (CN), another of Eka Chemicals' transport service providers.
