Rare wolves found in Klabin’s forests

A lair with four maned wolf pups has been found in a working area in the middle of the planted forest on Klabin’s Monte Alegre Farm

A lair with four maned wolf pups has been found in a working area in the middle of the planted forest on Klabin’s Monte Alegre Farm. This species is the largest canid native to South America and is considered to be endangered by IBAMA (Brazilian Institute of the Environment and Renewable Natural Resources).

On account of this discovery Plantar S/A, which provides forestry services for Klabin and was preparing the area for planting when the den was found, suspended all operations and isolated the area to ensure the safety of the pups, in compliance with the company’s recommendations in such cases.

As soon as the mother wolf realized that her den had been discovered, she returned to the location to transfer the pups to nearby preserved native woodlands.

This discovery proves yet again that the company’s system of forest stewardship following the mosaic concept by intermingling planted forests with preserved native woodlands, helps in the formation of ecological corridors and contributes to preservation of the abundant biodiversity.
