Norbord Inc recently announced that it has donated oriented strand board (OSB) to America’s Development Foundation (ADF) to build durable shelters for displaced earthquake victims in Haiti. Norbord’s contribution will be used to build 700 shelters for approximately 4,200 people living in the rural region of Petit-Goave, Haiti.
"Norbord is proud to play a role in the re-building efforts underway in Haiti," said Barrie Shineton, President and CEO. "The shelters being built by ADF will provide solid cover for families for at least three years, giving them time to develop more permanent housing solutions. These shelters can also be easily enhanced and developed by their owners to increase the shelter lifetime. It’s a small step, but hopefully one that makes a big difference in the Petit-Goave community."
"Norbord’s donation will have an immediate impact on the quality of life for hundreds of Haitian families," said Michael Miller, President of ADF. "In addition to the building materials, Norbord has also provided essential logistics support and has taken it upon themselves to ensure that their panels make it safely into Haiti. Their work on this project has been significant and it is appreciated."
