There is a long tradition of growing commercial timber trees on small farmers in India and such farm forests once were a primary source of raw materials for many domestic mills.
However, this practice has been declining over the past few decades mainly because of unfavourable legislation and overly complicated regulations relating to forestry and agriculture but this is about to change, according to ITTO (International Tropic Timber Organization). A new policy is being prepared to create a major shift in outlook towards farm forestry.
