The government of Belarus has officially announced that it will commission a new plant for the production of bleached kraft pulp in Svetlogorsk in July 2015, according to state press-service.
Implementation of the project is carried out by the Belarus government in cooperation with the Chinese Samsø corporation. Construction is underway with the use of loans, provided by Chinese banks.
It is planned that future pulp production of the new plant will allow to fully meet the needs of pulp and paper mills in Belarus in raw materials. The cost of the project is estimated at US$860 million.
The plant will have the capacity to produce 400,000 tonnes of bleached kraft pulp per year. Of these, about 170,000 tonnes will be sold on the domestic market, while the remaining will be exported abroad.
