In a bid to evaluate the hazardousness of chemical substances used in pulping and papermaking process, the Japan Paper Association (JPA) is expected to start risk assessment of registered existing chemical substances.
JPA in 2013 started the registration of existing chemical substances used in paper and paperboard manufacturing for food contact containers and packages. The substances were registered on “JPA-ChemiNet” which is an open database among registered members of JPA.
The move is part of an effort to ensure a high level of food safety. JPA has completed the registration of existing chemical substances and has started registering new chemical substances.
The applicants will be required to submit information on the substance including its hazardousness, regulations and exposure in order to complete registration.
