Northern Pulp will proceed this year with a $21-million project to install a new precipitator at its Abercrombie Point mill in Nova Scotia, Canada. Northern Pulp recently announced that they are breaking ground on their recovery boiler precipitator project.
The precipitator project is part of an undertaking to become more fuel efficient and to reduce the mill’s environmental footprint.
According to a press release, Paper Excellence began the initial investigation of a precipitator replacement when they acquired Northern Pulp in 2011.
The new equipment is expected be operational in the spring of 2015.
According to Pulp & Paper Canada, Abercrombie Point mill was shut down on Tuesday June 10, due to an effluent leak. The pipe in which the lead was found carries 90 million litres/day of pulp mill waste.
