Metso's Pulp, Paper and Power business, the future Valmet, will supply Uni Viridas d.o.o. with a complete biomass fired power plant, which will provide power and heat to the city of Babina Creda in Croatia. Uni Viridas is a special purpose entity of Unit Investment N.V., and is established for this specific project. The plant is scheduled to be in operation in 2015. The value of the order will not be disclosed.

The main part of the order is included in Metso Pulp, Paper and Power's fourth quarter 2013 orders received. The automation system is included in Metso Automation's fourth quarter 2013 orders received.

The turnkey delivery will include a boiler island, a turbin and buildings as well as installation and construction works. The boiler can utilize wide range of fuels such as forest residues with high combustion efficiency and low NOx and CO2 emissions. The plant will have a power output of 9.7 megawatts (MW) and a heat output of 10 MW. The electricity will be distributed to the local grid and the heat will be utilized in a wood pellet factory, other industrial facilities, and nearby greenhouses.

"The production of electricity from renewable energy sources will contribute to the long-term sustainable development of the entire Croatian power system, create a more secure supply of energy, decrease the dependency of Croatia on other countries, and bring prosperity to the citizens and future generations. We are pleased that, together with our Croatian partners, we recognized the quality and benefits of this project and that we are among the first in Croatia to move in this direction," says Cem Sirin, CEO of Unit Investment N.V.

"This is our first power plant delivery to Croatia, that utilizes local renewable fuels. This makes the project an important milestone for us. The use of renewable energy sources helps to ensure a reliable energy supply, and creates new business and job opportunities in biomass logistigs. This project will strengthen our local presence and we plan to use local partners and services during the execution of the project," says Jorma Lehtoviita, Vice President, Heat and Power, Pulp, Paper and Power, Metso.
