The folding box manufacturer Karl Knauer has again won an award for the first freely available luminescent packaging. The innovative packaging for the premium-quality gin “Bombay Sapphire” received the Gold POPAI POS Award 2013 in the categories “Drinks and Tobacco” as well as “Innovation Award”.

Presumably the first freely available luminescent packaging was created in cooperation between Karl Knauer KG and the Webb deVlam agency, and it drew attention and recognition from around the globe. Just after it was launched on the market last year in September, Karl Knauer KG was distinguished with numerous awards, including the Deutschen Verpackungspreis, the World Star Packaging Award , the Gold iF packaging design award and the Promotional Gift Award. The actively luminescent printed surfaces, created with the novel “HiLight – printed electronics” technology, show a light sequence as soon as the customer picks up the packaging at a point of sale. Five consecutive stages are shown, and then the cycle begins again. The packaging sets new standards for the presentation of a brand at the point of sale.

The POPAI (Point of Purchase Advertising International) Awards are presented annually in Dusseldorf. The hosting POPAI Organisation has represented the interests of industry, commerce, manufacturers and service providers since it was founded in the USA in 1936.
