Spain investigates alleged cartel in corrugated sector

The Spanish competition authority Comisión Nacional de la Competencia (CNC) says that suspected anticompetitive practices are being investigated on the corrugated board market in Spain, according to Euwid Pulp and Paper.

The CNC has carried out investigations at many companies and at the headquarters of industry association Asociación de Fabricantes de Cartón Ondulado (AFCO) earlier this month.

CNC suspects that the producers of corrugated board and boxes are under suspicion of fixing prices and dividing the market amongst themselves.  The investigations are the first the first stage of antitrust investigations, and do not have any impact on the companies’ outcome. Formal procedures will be initiated if the searches should reveal any evidence of anticompetitive practices.
