At next month’s Packtech exhibition, Cerulean Packing, part of Molins PLC, will be launching a new carton testing machine which combines three essential quality control tests in one instrument. The Newton Laboratory Carton Tester (LCT) measures crease strength and box-forming force, spring-back force and friction, eliminating the need for three separate machines.

As a result, the LCT provides cost-effective, quick, easy and accurate carton quality management and is ideal for manufacturers in a wide range of FMCG industries such as food and drink, toiletries and cosmetics and consumer electronics.

The LCT can measure creases up to 590mm wide and is suitable for cartons made from corrugated and paper board up to 8mm thick. The crease strength and box-forming force tests measure the torque required to bend a crease or form a box, providing an instantaneous curve that shows the torque for every degree of deflection. This is followed by the spring-back force test to check for crease recovery properties. The friction test, available as an optional extra, checks the slip resistance properties of the carton.
